About Rocky Point

Puerto Peñasco also known as Rocky Point, is a small fishing village in Northern Mexico off the Sea of Cortez famous for its shrimp.  Once a sleepy village, Rocky Point had housed the likes of Al Capone, as the mobster looked to get into the hotel business in Rocky Point during the days of prohibition.  Today, Puerto Peñasco is in the midst of a transformation into a Mexican resort destination to rival the likes of Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta.  For many years American travelers have flocked to Rocky Point beaches to enjoy the Sea of Cortez and the quiet white sandy beaches that surround it.  Slowly, word spread about the beauty of Rocky Point Mexico and more and more travelers have been coming to Rocky Point.  Puerto Penasco as it is today is far more vast than it was in the days of Al Capone.

When you are in Rocky Point, you will want to visit the fish market in the Old Port area.  Here you will find fresh fish and shrimp for sale which have been caught by the local fisherman.   Just walk up to their storefront, and browse their selection of Seafood.  They will weigh your choice, and send what you purchased home with you for your dining pleasure.  There are also many Rocky Point restaurants located in the fish market area where you can sample some of the local flavors and fresh fish and shrimp.   There are a lot of shopping opportunities in the Old Port fish market area where one can buy one of many handmade items.  When traveling to Rocky Point Mexico, you will want to make sure to visit the fish market.
